About the ArtistMy academic training is weighted heavily toward the sciences. I hold a B.S. in zoology, a M.S. in plant physiology, and an M.A. in library and information sciences. I spent most of my working life in biological research. After retiring, I spent time painting, cross stitching, and gardening; all the while searching for a creative outlet, which “spoke to me.” I discovered quilting, but soon found that I didn’t enjoy following patterns designed by others. Therefore, I moved into creating my own original quilts, often drawing on my love and knowledge of nature and gardening for inspiration. Artists StatementWith a background in biology, I tend to use nature as my inspiration. My quilts are usually representational or pictorial. Flowers and leaves appear often in my work. My more recent quilts utilize raw edge appliqué and thread play. I enjoy using fabric paints, Shiva markers, and water-soluble oil pastels to enhance my work. I continue to grow and explore new art techniques applicable to my quilting. Artist Email
