About the ArtistIn college I wanted to major in either Spanish or Art. Thinking Spanish was more practical, I ended up choosing Spanish. I am still quite fluent in the language and it has taken me to many wonderful places, but a part of me still wishes I had majored in Art. In my patchwork career I first fell into bookselling, worked for a Spanish book importer, then got into publishing where I was a marketer and editor of craft books. I currently work as a marketing manager for decorative gift and stationery products. Artists StatementI came to the art of quilt making fairly recently, after a number of years of making handmade books and exploring other paper arts. I bought an inexpensive sewing machine, took a couple classes and quickly discovered how much I enjoyed every aspect of the quilt making process. I love coming up with original designs, experimenting with different materials and colors and working out the creative challenges that each new quilt brings. There is also the pleasure that comes from working with my own hands and falling into the rhythm of measuring, cutting, sewing and ironing all those pieces of fabric. It is very satisfying to see my quilts come together all the way from concept to finished work of art. Artist Email |
