Exhibition Proposals for MVAQN
The Exhibition Chair needs the following information from all members of MVAQN. This information will be used for exhibition proposals to places such as the Fitton and Springfield Art Museum. Usually these proposals have a two year lead time, therefore, the information may be general. Since this is a group submittal, everyone’s information is needed.
- Artists Statement: Two to three paragraphs describing a proposed series of work and/or your artwork in general. This is what, how and why you do what you do form your personal perspective. What mediums do you use? Where are you going? What do you enjoy?
This link might help: http://artist-statement.com/whatisanartstate.html.
- Artists Bio: About two paragraphs or less of your background. This is what you want people to know about you in general---your biography.
Example: “Mary Needlepin was born and raised as a Texan and enjoyed playing with fabric at an early age. She taught herself to quilt and completed her first quilted piece at age 10. Ms. Needlepin holds a M.A. in History from Harvey Mudd College and was a museum curator at several institutions.
Mary resides today in Timbukfor with her husband Major Scissors, their daughter and their five cats.
Comments: Include any thing about yourself that impacts your quilting.
- Exhibitions and Awards (Curriculum Vitae or Resume):
A list of dates, places, names of exhibitions and type of exhibition, such as one-person show, etc. Please include awards or other recognition. This information includes traditional quilt shows.
If you have exhibited often and think that many of the shows are not worth mentioning, just list the ones which are important to you, and add “in addition to (the number of shows you’ve exhibited in) other venues, or something to that effect.
Start this out like a traditional resume with your name, address, and education; even if it isn’t related to art quilts.
- jPegs on disk: these examples of your work in jpeg form of a consistent body of artwork on a disk. JPEGs must be compatible with PC software, at least 300 dpi and no larger than 1 MB apiece. Do not imbed captions, copyright info, watermarks or your name in the JPEGs. Do label the jpeg with your piece’s name and your last name. Please submit a page or two of thumbnails of your jpeg images with each artwork image labeled with title, media and dimensions.
This information must be submitted on a disc. Do not email the jpeg file. All the written information, such as the artist statement, artist bio and curriculum vitae/resume may be sent via email, preferably as a word document.
